CITY ISSUES AIR QUALITY ADVISORY ELEVATED LEVELS OF PARTICULATE MATTER AND OZONE ARE PROJECTED

JACKSONVILLE, Florida, May 11, 2017 – The City of Jacksonville’s Neighborhoods Department, Environmental Quality Division, is issuing an air quality advisory. Elevated levels of Particulate Matter and Ozone are occurring today. Smoke from forest fires in the area west, northwest of Duval County are contributing to elevated Particulate Matter and Ozone concentrations.

Children, the elderly, and sensitive individuals should take steps to avoid exposure by staying indoors or refraining from strenuous outdoor activity. If exercising outdoors, substituting less vigorous exercise (a walk instead of a jog, for example) could be helpful.

The Environmental Quality division maintains a dedicated website which includes the most up to date Air Quality Index information for the city. Links included in the website below will redirect you to the EPA AIRNOW website which collects the Environmental Quality Division’s data and provides the most current air quality data, and the air quality forecast for tomorrow.
