Food Policy Council Summit 

Duval County Food Policy Council to Host the Second Annual Food Summit Saturday, November 16 at WJCT Studios Duval County Food Summit to explore how the food culture impacts the health and wellness of Duval County.


THE ISSUE:

  • Duval County residents are more likely than typical Americans to struggle with finding healthy food, according to a new nationwide analysis of places known as food deserts.i
  • People with no local choice except fast-food restaurants and convenience stores are likely to eat unhealthy foods and suffer the health consequences, such as obesity and diabetes.ii
  • A Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and the University of Wisconsin study found that Duval County is ranked 46th out of the 67 Florida counties for overall health and wellness.iii
  • Nationally, an estimated $178 billion per year is spent on childhood obesity-related conditions.iv

WHAT:
Join the Duval County Food Policy Council in a public conversation to explore our food culture, its impact on the community's access to safe and nutritious food and how we can make more informed choices about our health.
The 2013 Duval County Food Summit is a community-based effort to ensure a quality food system leading to better health for all people.
