ABOUT: Today, the Healthy Jacksonville Men’s Health Coalition, Inc. (HJMHC) will hold the 5th Annual Health Summit for Men and Boys on Saturday, June 22nd, 9am-2:30pm. The event will be held at the Florida State College at Jacksonville’s Advanced Technology Center, 401 West State Street Downtown.
Since its inception, the HJMHC annual health summits have provided free health screenings, workshops and resources to thousands of males. Since the data has shown most men in Jacksonville were affected by health issues that were preventable and lifestyle related, we’ve included a special forum for young males 13 and older. We’re working to improve the quality of life for all Duval County residents, by specifically addressing the chronic health disparities that disproportionately affect our men.
The HJMHC is a grassroots coalition comprised of individuals representing various civic organizations, hospitals, faith & educational institutions and local citizens met to engage in dialogue on how best to address the status of men’s health in Duval County.
We have also developed a social marketing campaign that includes:
• a speaker’s bureau of physician, nurses and lay health persons
• a grassroots advocacy campaign and
• a system that encourages men to seek routine and preventive medical care
Among men in Duval County:
• The rate of Lung cancer is higher than Florida & US
• The rate of prostate cancer is higher than Florida
• The rate of homicides is higher than Florida & US
