Rabies Alert - Ortega 

JACKSONVILLE, FL – Duval County’s first rabies alert of the year has been issued for the Ortega area of Jacksonville. The alert is in effect through May 6, 2013.


The rabies alert area is bordered on the north by Lancelot Lane at Water Oak Lane, on the south by St. Johns Avenue at Herschel Street, on the west by Lakeshore Boulevard at Fremont Street, and east at the St. Johns River.


The alert follows the discovery of a rabid bat in the Ortega area of Jacksonville. After further investigation it has been determined that human exposure was involved in this alert. As a precaution, pet owners should maintain control of their pets at all times, and be certain that each has received current rabies immunization shots from a licensed veterinarian.


Stray animals should be reported to the City of Jacksonville Animal Care and Protective Services at 630-2489.
